NewModelAdvice

I see so many posts from aspiring models who are just starting out in their careers asking for some advice.. so here’s my two cents as an agency owner...

Firstly... Instagram/Facebook are not a portfolio; they are social media..

Ensure you separate your work page from your selfie/personal profile.

Secondly... don’t use selfies absolutely drowned in filters as your images to get you noticed.

A good photographer/editer will be able to do that for you, but they need to know what you actually look like to know if you will fit castings they are looking to fill.

It’s great having flawless skin and eyes like a deer in headlights but if that’s not what you actually look like in real life then you could come to a shoot and be the opposite of what’s needed which is a waste of everyone’s time and isn’t a great way to start your career.

Thirdly... learn to pose!

You might feel silly at first but get past it.

Sit at home pose infront or the mirror, set an alarm and try and do as many different shapes and movements as you can in the allotted time... practice!

Finally... it’s worth investing in yourself!

Not everyone is lucky enough to be contacted by an agency or scout and just be thrown into the paid work and lime light.

It takes hard work and time, so invest in yourself.

Do you research and find a photographer who you like the work of, ideally someone who specialises in the style you want to focus your career on and pay for a shoot with them.

You’ll be working with someone who then wants to help you get the most of your money and who has experience in the industry your trying to go into and you’ll get some images that are really high quality which will be a great starting of point for your career.

P.S most importantly don’t try and compare yourself to everyone else you see.

Unfortunately getting into this industry and becoming established is getting tougher and tougher as the years go by, so instead of blending in to the masses, stand out!

Good luck!

(And don’t pay an agency for an initial photoshoot... it’s a scam!
